Spaces
This real-time generative artwork is aimed at drawing the audience into the artwork. They should feel like they are part of it and get completely immersed.
Idea and Implementation - Sophie Amelin

INSPIRATION
Fascinated by how realistic the space in Cyclotone II by Paul Prudence felt, I wanted to create a similar feeling in my artwork.
CONCEPT
An imaginary 3-dimensional tunnel should be created by geometrical forms evolving around this non visible tunnel. It should face towards the audience to create the feeling of involvement.

PROCESS
The main part of the work are the tubes. With the help of the Processing library shapes3d, those forms were created. The basis consists of arranging the different sections of the tube in a circle.
The first approach to create a tunnel-feeling was to evolve them linear around it. The result was a very clean style. The generative part was letting them evolve randomly which created a way more messy look. Additionally the time, when the tubes are allowed to move forwards, got restricted by a random factor.
Furthermore a second geometrical form was added to the work. When experimenting with trapezoids, the idea of another tunnel-accentuating form came up. Arranged in a circle, the trapezoids move in the same direction as the tubes while spinning around their own axis.

PRODUCT
Tubes are winding around the imaginary tunnel, generating their path in real time. As soon as one wireframe styled tube disappears, a new one is created. Additionally circles, consisting of trapezoids, are spinning around the tunnel.
The wireframe-look makes the whole work seem much more surreal and fictive. In addition to that the background color is constantly changing from black to different shades of grey. This adds an interesting aspect to the project. When the color matches the color of some parts of the work, they seem like they are vanishing.
